Elvis Lives!.............. Kind of!

I had a few cards to make recently so I decided to make them all in one go. They were all for different occasions and when I make cards I try to personalize them for each person. This made it slightly more difficult to think of different designs. However I think is the beauty of handmade cards. The first card I already had something in mind, my friend is a huge elvis fan. I decided to make a applique style elvis in silhouette using some of the left over fabric I had from the purse I made. I used bondaweb and Ironed it to the card.

I always find making cards for boys a little harder, I find they are never really bother about receiving cards but you can't leave them out. This is my fathers day card. My dad used to work in the printing industry when it was all printing presses so I'm sure thats where i got my love of fonts from. I used a combination of two printing sets I have to make this very simple design.
This one really stumped me. I off to a wedding next week which coincidentally is on my birthday (a welcome distraction to getting older). This is a civil ceremony between a male gay couple. I've been working on a fantastic wedding present which I will hopefully finish this weekend but I decided to keep there card very simple and just print the date of the ceremony in my antique print set. I might have to do a little more to it as it does look a little dull.  This is the first wedding card i've made so that might be why I found this a little more difficult.

Happy Halloween

I have been unbelievably organized this year when in came to sorting out my halloween costume . Here is a quick photo I took this morning just to make sure my costume looked ok. I actually made it about a month ago but still hadn't tried it on. This year I am going as a pumpkin. I wanted to go as something a bit different then a witch and I am loving the colour orange at the mo so I thought perfect. I appliqued the pumpkin face onto a long sleeved t-shirt and then made a tu tu style skirt to go over some black trousers. I will get some better photos when I go to my friends house party tonight. It's quite hard to take a full length photo of yourself, by yourself.
I also made a spooky chocolate take to take along to the party. I just made a simple stencil out of foil and sprinkled the cake with icing sugar. Now I just have to cake down to Devon in one piece on the train and then it's party time. Yeh!

Image Transfer

I've been playing around with transferring images onto fabric and thought i would have another go at Image Maker. I have used it years ago but didn't really produce any good results. I have a friend who used it a lot while we were at uni so asked her for some advice. I'm not completely happy with the results. Considering they are selling it by saying you can transfer images onto t-shirts I wouldn't be too happy about putting my sample through the wash. It took me a couple of attempts to get the paper backing off and then the transfer is so delicate. This image is an old shot of time square which I decided to embellish as it was a complete experiment.

I have also had a go a applique. I do seem to have gathered lots of scraps of fabric and thought I would see if I could make use of them. I thought i would start with a simple design with a little text. The fabric I choose for the bird was felt which i love. Such a cozy texture and so easy to cut and play around with. I used some crinkly fabric for the wings which was a bit of a pain to cut and sew. I know i have some interfacing somewhere but will have to try that with the next sample. I have done lots of sewing of sorts in the past but I'm now remembering that all these different fabrics behave very differently. I'm quite happy with the results for an evening of sewing in front of the TV. I think the writing is even neater than my handwriting!

Here we have my love birds. I was having a think for designs as Valentines day is on the horizon. I have found my interfacing and it has made such a difference when cutting the design out of fabric. I am defiantly one for clean edges. It's such a simple design and works beautifully. I do love symmetry in a design.
